Battleship being turned into a FPS…what?

I’m sure you’ve heard of the upcoming movie based off of the classic board game Battleship.  As if turning the gripping story of putting a red peg in B9 into film wasn’t enough, now they want to turn the franchise into a first-person shooter/”naval strategy”…thing.

Uh, guys, we already have a game based off of Battleship.  Its called “Battleship“.

You know, this game

Seriously, the Battleship formula could have actually been used to great effect here, instead its used as a side-product to some probably ridiculous and cheap first-person shooter garbage.  Just off the top of my head I can think of 3 better ideas:

  • A full-on RTS game where you make, i dunno, battleships
  • A Battleship board game re-creation where the aliens have their own style of ships
  • Or a turn-based strategy game with resources and the classic grid (like B3 and C9) from the game as a map.

Hell, I would have actually enjoyed a facebook game in this case where you get to play Battleship turn-by-turn, Words with Friends-style.  Actually…that’s not a bad idea.

So just for the record, that makes this a game based off a movie based off a game based off of real-life naval combat.  Throw in a couple of aliens and suddenly it all makes sense!

I will play this game solely for the chance to hear the line “you sunk my squad…bro.”

About Ryan Saul

Hailing from Portland, OR I work by day and blog by night. I like to consider myself a video game connoisseur, playing as many new things as I can get my hands on. Its hard to hold me down to one game for very long before I move on to the next big thing. Luckily, that works pretty well in terms of video game blogging.
